This year, the SSS leadership class partnered with the Summerland Rotary Club to refresh our school’s courtyard. The courtyard is located in the center of the school and is an ideal place for students to do homework or have lunch but can also double as an outdoor classroom. Due to lack of seating, the courtyard has not been used to its full potential in recent years. The funding provided by the Summerland Rotary Club allowed for the purchase of several tables and chairs which students starting using as soon as they arrived and were a welcomed addition. The plan going forward is to add a student painted mural, indigenous plantings that attract pollinators and require little water as well as more seating and shaded areas to complete the space and make for a welcoming environment. We are extremely grateful to the Summerland Rotary Club for partnering with us and making this dream a reality.
